Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand By Bruce Clement The Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand is New Zealand's only genuine socialist party in parliament and quietly pursues a left wing agenda while loudly promoting the ecological parts of their party platform. The Greens have been in parliament since the first Mixed Member Proportional (MMP) election, at first as a constituent party in the Alliance, and since 2002 as a fully independent party elected in their own right. Given current polling it seems inevitable that they will have a representation in parliament after the 2008 general election. Based on past statements they are extremely unlikely to enter a coalition with National so they can be counted on to support the retention of the Labour government.
